This Friday night I’m playing another backyard house show. This time I’ll also be celebrating the release of my new album Union, Reunion. Singer/songwriter, Caleb Sigler will also be performing, as well as Nature Boy Explorer, a guitar/harp/ accordion trio led by my former music theory professor, Mark Snyder.

A couple of weeks ago I wrote my first hymn. For years, I’ve often drawn from scripture for inspiration for songs, but I’ve never written a hymn until this one. “Wayward Brother” is inspired by the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to record it soon to share.

An album of songs recorded after Chilton’s time as the frontman for The Box Tops but before he founded Big Star. This is the musical bridge between those two seminal Memphis rock bands.

Air – La Voyage dans la Lune

For those who saw the recent film, Hugo (and if you didn’t, stop reading and go watch it now), the above album cover may look familiar. It comes from a 1902 silent film by Georges Méliès (yes, he was a real person) which was featured in Hugo. French pop duo, Air, were commissioned to score a newly restored release of the Méliès film. I’ve not yet seen the restored film with their soundtrack, but I have been enjoying the music on its own.

 of Montreal – Paralytic Stalks

After being disappointed by the last few of Montreal albums, I was almost ready to give up on them. But then I heard a track from this album, and my hope was restored. Paralytic Stalks turned out to be my favorite album they’ve made since 2001′s Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies.

 Zammuto – Zammuto

Nick Zammuto was one half of The Books, who were one of the most original and innovative groups I can think of. They broke up after releasing their third album, but thankfully Zammuto has continued making new music, forming a band which dons his last name as their own. I won’t try to convey what this music sounds like with words, because I wouldn’t know how.

Some of you may remember my music video for “The Night is Dead” which was my song of the month last June. It was recently chosen to be featured in Live From Memphis‘ Lagniappe Fest which is showcasing music videos by local Memphis artists. Lagniappe Fest is a new addition to the 7th annual Music Video Showcase being held Sunday, March 4th at The Warehouse (36 E. GE Patterson Ave, Memphis, TN).

The first half of the festival starts at 4 PM, and will feature a music video by my friends in the band El Burro. I recorded and mixed their song “Ya Ba Ya La Ba Da” for their music video which was directed by Samuel Dunn.

My music video for “The Night is Dead” will be featured in the second half of the festival which begins screening at 5 PM.

I’ve been hard at work for the last few months finishing up mixing and mastering my new album, Union, Reunion. It’s finally close enough to being ready that I can announce some details. You can see the cover art above, and below is the back of the album with the tracklist. I don’t have an official release date yet, but it should be in May. I’ll post more details as I have them.
